It is made from steel and aluminium for static or display use only and is a nice item in the cockpit sections or simulators. Mk I Undercarriage Hand Pump
Very rare item for a Spitfire enthusiast, cockpit builder, or for a museum display: a replica of an Undercarriage Hand Pump as used in the Mk I Spitfire at the beginning of the war. This is the right part for the Mk I Spitfire cockpit for the days of Dunkirk and the Battle of Britain. It is suitable for a museum to illustrate the development of technology of the Spitfire to show how awkward it was to pump the landing gear during takeoff and compare it to the updated Undercarrige Selector.
The hand pump is made of aluminum and steel, the black knobs are machined from plastic. Both levers are spring loaded. The Raise – Lower lever is released by pulling up the knob, after which it can be twisted to the opposite position. The long lever can be moved back and forth as if pumping the landing gear up or down. The spring provides resistance to the pulling movement. The two pipe connections at the back have BSP 1/4″ thread. The pump including also a Warning placard which was installed on the starboard side of the cockpit.
Now is a unique opportunity to acquire a Mk I Spitfire cockpit part that is not available anywhere else, and the original is almost impossible to find. Here is a part that feels and even smells like the real thing.
